Emily made up her mind that she was going to get dreadlocks against the advice of every adult who knew she wanted to do it.  I was sceptical thinking that they would not be very flattering but by the end of the process I had changed my mind.  We started out on Monday by her getting a perm to give her hair more texture.

The first two hours on Friday were spent putting her hair in little one-inch-square pigtails.

Seven hours later the bottom half of her hair was done.  She was pleased so far and ready to return for Day Three of the process.

They are nearing the end, she only had about five left to go in by this time.  We never did stop to count how many dreads she had but we know it was somewhere between 75 to 85.  Her stylist Brynn was a real soldier, she didn’t even take a break today, worked from 9:00 a.m. until finish at 6:30 p.m.  It was a long day!  Here Emily is helping finish off the ends.

Ta dah!  The last thing we had to do was put little rubber bands on the end of each dread so that they won’t unravel.  Emily will give the ends a little twist every day and eventually will take the rubber bands off.  All totaled, the perm took three hours, the dreads took seven hours on Friday and nine and a half hours on Saturday.  Don’t be surprised if you see her featured on future ads for the Buzz Salon in Superior.
