The repair of the power switch is complete.  At 7:30 p.m. last night I had to go in to work to start backing up phone servers to prepare to take the phone system down long enough to transfer it over to power provided by a portable generator.  Every time we have lost power (fortunately, this is very rare) we have had no problems bringing the phone and voice mail systems back in service.  Unfortunately, last night the voice mail system crashed and the server doesn't think it has a hard drive!

I should have been able to go home and get some quick sleep but ended up on the phone with Avaya (waited in queue for 45 minutes!!) reporting the problem and making arrangements for repair.  I got home at 11:30 p.m. and tried to fall asleep fast.  The hospital was going to let me know when the power switch repair was complete so I could come back down and move the phone off of the generator.  I got a call at 1:00 a.m. from the hospital Operators relaying a problem that I unfortunately could not do anything to fix.  I got another call at 2:00 a.m. when a delivery person arrived at the Emergency Room with a brand new hard drive for my voice mail system.  I slept fitfully until my boss called at 4:50 a.m. to tell me that I could come back down, they were ready to transfer power.  I was there by 5:10 a.m.

We had a smooth transition back to normal power and brought the phone system back successfully.  The Avaya Technician will be in at 8:00 a.m. to begin repair of the voice mail system.

I am now preparing to leave for Minneapolis.  I have tickets to see The Producers this afternoon and I will be meeting Ann Kontio for breakfast tomorrow morning at Hell's Kitchen, our new favorite breakfast spot.  Hopefully the rest of this weekend will be quiet, relaxing, and fun.
